Hi Guys,
Check out the Announcement that I've made on the VLe Homepage for our Eng4U class. This is the announcement --- but please make sure you can access the VLe ! Hi Everyone, I hope you are all doing as well as can be expected and staying safe and healthy. I’m thinking about you all. We are going to start again with the course but before we do, there are a few important things that we all need to understand. First of all, your number 1 priority right now and moving forward is keeping yourself safe and healthy and taking care of your family. I want to make this abundantly clear! So, lock that in your brains! ;) Secondly, I want to draw your attention to a note from Ms. Tang that was posted on our GHSS website: “Every student who was passing a course on March 13, will earn that credit in June. However, we hope that your family circumstance will allow students to participate in on-line learning. We know that it can be challenging to encourage teenagers to get work done but hope if parents and teachers work together, we can make it happen! It is important for students to continue learning for several reasons. -A sense of normal routine and expectations as well as the opportunity to be part of a larger community, albeit an on-line community, helps all of us stay mentally well during this stressful and unusual time. -Students have an opportunity to improve their achievement and, if they were not passing on March 13, to earn the credit. -Students will need to learn as much as they can to be prepared for the course that comes after the ones they are in this semester. For example, learning to write an essay this spring in grade 9 English will lead to better essays in grade 10 English. This is also critical for students heading to post-secondary destinations.” This means that if your family circumstances are such that you cannot complete the tasks, that is just fine. Any work that you complete from here on out will ONLY improve your mark and skills moving forward. If you were passing the class as of March 13th, you will not fail the course regardless of the work that is completed during the school closure. Okay, now that we have all of that out of the way, we can look at some of the work that I’ve laid out for you. The unit that we will be looking at is Unit 4. In order to complete this unit, simply move through the lessons and activities, submitting work to the drop box as necessary. Refer to the instructional video that I’ve included if you’re unfamiliar with this platform. As always, please email me with any questions or concerns that you have! You will be receiving an updated “as of March 13th” mark from me shortly. Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Hi everyone!!! The following email was sent to each and every one of your through your OFFICE365 account.
If you cannot access your office account and need your password reset email me (from whatever email you can) at [email protected] and I will reset it for you. Hi everyone! Welcome to continuous learning! I am so happy to be connecting with all of you again. I know this has been a stressful and confusing time for many of us. I’m hoping that we can reconnect and work together to get through the rest of the semester. Moving forward, we will be using the VLe (Virtual Learning Environment) to complete work for this class. Of course, this is not what I had planned, but is what we will have to do given the new nature of our learning circumstances. I have taught classes on the VLe before and will be able to help guide you through the interface even though we won’t be together. At this point, I have been directed to only focus on making contact with each and every one of you. We will not be starting any curriculum YET. Please send me an email ASAP directly to [email protected] letting me know that you’ve read this. If I do not hear from you soon, I will be calling you. In your response email, please let me know how you are doing through all of this. Please also let me know if you have reliable access to a computer and to internet. You can access the VLe through the following link: http://www.ghsslibrary.ca/resources.html Click on BWDSB E-Learning (in bottom right corner) You should watch this demonstration video to assist in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiDkgiVwnUE&t=2s You will login using your username and password – same as your Office365 login (email and school computer login). Once in, look under “my classes” and you should see our course code – ENG4UI-02. At this point, your only job is to email me back answering those questions and letting me know how you’re doing AND to explore the VLe site to make yourself familiar with the interface. I will be making contact again shortly with more curriculum related details. Thank you for your patience during all of this! I hope you are all staying healthy. Ms. Ferguson |
