Today we read the King essay "Why We Crave Horror Movies" and went over the Style Analysis assignment and read the two essays you can choose from.
Both essays are NOW (updated just today - sorry for those of you who have already tried!) both in the course binder - "Competing with Cool" and "May the Best Cheater Win" Upcoming due dates: Rough Draft/ Outline peer edit due Monday Want me to edit it? I must have it by Monday! Good Copy due Thursday March 7th - LATE MARKS APPLY! OVER THE WEEKEND! ASK FOR AN EXTENSION IF YOU NEED IT! Welcome back after yet another snow day!!
Today we will discuss and analyze the Llosa essay "With Pens Drawn". We will go over a quick lesson on how to connect Rhetorical Devices to Thesis statements. For the rest of the week: Wednesday: we will read "Why We Crave Horror Movies" by Stephen King AND I will be discussing the Style Analysis Assignment. Thursday: We will discuss King's essay and you will have time to work on the style analysis Friday: Library work period for Style Analysis STYLE ANALYSIS DUE ON THURSDAY MARCH 7th Today and Tomorrow:
Today we will be going over the two methods for finding a thesis statement and you will apply them to one of the essays we've read. I will give you time to finish the Llosa questions as well. I will be handing out the Culminating assignment and going over it. On FRIDAY I will be away and you will have a work period to work on the Llosa questions, the methods for finding the thesis or your culminating assignment (including reading your novel). Today we are going to take up and discuss the questions from the Atwood essay and we will also read through the Llosa essay called "With Pen's Drawn."
Make sure you have completed the questions from the Llosa essay for tomorrow when we will discuss them. Tomorrow we will go over two methods for analyzing and essay and identifying the thesis. I'm away on Friday, and I'll update shortly with what you'll be doing that day. Happy Love Day!!!! <3
Today we are reading the Atwood essay "Amnesty International" and working through the attached questions. We will also head to the library to sign out ISU novels. Remember, they need to be CANADIAN and ADULT FICTION! :) I've just been informed that I have the opportunity to go to a super cool conference tomorrow in Hamilton. The timing is not ideal, but I can't turn down a good learning opportunity, so I will be gone tomorrow. The supply teacher will collect your essays and check off that they were received. You will be reading through an essay called "April Fools on Polar Express" and answering questions. We will take up the questions for BOTH this essay and the Atwood essay on Tuesday! Today we will be going over the 6+1 Traits of an Effective writer in prep for your Personal/Narrative Essay assignment. I'll be giving you in class time to work on this essay assignment as it will be due on FRIDAY! THIS FRIDAY! ALERT! If there are snow days this week, it will still be due on Friday. The only way the due date will change is if FRIDAY is a snow day... in which case it will be due Tuesday - as Monday is Family Day. Tomorrow we will be selecting the first novel for your ISU in the Library! Yay! Lovely weather we are having today? Right?
Today we will write the quiz on the Rhetorical Devices - see the RD Quiz button on the bottom of the Course Binder section. We also will read the essay "The Morality of Conviction" and for homework you will do an essay breakdown of it. Next week I will hand out the personal essay assignment and it will be due on Friday - so be prepared for a quick turn around on that assignment.
